I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13
The Presentation
As Deke's story is told, he will perform tricks and stunts that were once thought by medical professionals to be impossible because of his deformities. Bible verses and stories that parallel Deke's tragic past and amazing present lfie will be offered as the presentation unfolds, and it will be a challenge to the viewer to find the verse or story and see the connection between God's word, Deke's life, and very possibly their own life. "Fill in the blank" handouts will be given to all who attend to encourage active participation and opposed to passive watching and listening. Participants are also challenged, after being given some clues, to find one of the greatest of God's promises and discover the connection between Deke, the promise, and every one of God's children.
After performing his tricks and stunts, Deke's "Three Cords of Training" will be outlined, and all participants will be challenged to take Deke's "Trinity of Training" and apply it to their own Christian walks.
Elementary Age
For elementary age children, this presentation will create a visual association to some very core Biblical principals, such as understanding the true meaning of Philippians 4:13, that will be easy for young minds to remember. Watching Deke perform his stunts and getting a chance to see a demonstration on how he was trained will make an impression on their minds that will last a long time.
Youth Groups
For youth groups there can be an open discussion on the meaning and application of Biblical verses and stories that were given during Deke's presentation as well as a description and demonstration of how Deke was trained to perform some of his tricks and stunts. Additionally, the handouts can be used by youth leaders to spark future discussions regarding how God's word is relevant today to important life experiences.
Adults
Adult congregations of any size church will have a handout to fill out as the presentation unfolds. Then, after some discussion following Deke's performance, they will be motivated to go home and do some "homework" that helps to connect the dots regarding the biblical references given during the show with how to be challenged to live the obedient, thoughtful, and active life Christ modeled for us when He was here on earth.
ADJUSTABLE TIME
Presentation can run from 30-60 minutes, depending on the age of the audience and the amount of time allowed.
INTERACTIVE Q&A
Since Deke's life story and performance spark such great interest, Dave will be open to doing a Q&A session after the presentation.
He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.
